REPORT PREPARED BY THE PRESIDENT OF MUSLIMAH MENTORSHIP NETWORK ON THE LAUNCH OF THE “SHARE A SANITARY PAD WITH A GIRL” PROJECT AT MADINA ISLAMIC SCHOOL(MIS) IN ACCRA. #1girl12pads.

DATE: Wednesday, 30th January, 2019.
Pre-event planning: Madina Islamic School was proposed to the team by Mr. Abdul Rashid Korsinah who lives close to the school. He suggested the school because he had seen our work on social media and thought our activities would be beneficial to the students of MIS.
We proceeded to write a letter to the school and were finally invited to visit on January 30 to mentor the girls.
OBJECTIVES: This special mentorship session is meant to distribute sanitary pads to girls while mentoring them at the same time.

Introduction:
The team arrived at the school a little later than the scheduled time of 9:30 am. Upon arrival, the President, Sister Bilkis Nuhu Kokroko introduced the team to  the headmistress of the school, Hajia Adamah who was already aware of our visit and purpose.
▶️Before the team went ahead with the programme, we needed to pay for the 52 delivered boxes of sanitary pads we ordered. The boxes were given to us at 90 cedis each with each pad priced at 3.75 cedis per unit. The total cost was GH4,680 cedis.
▶️Around the same time, our main speaker, Dr. Caryn Prempeh had arrived at the venue. We proceeded to the mosque where the programme was to be held. The girls numbering 102 were already seated.
The session begun at 10:30 am.
▶️Our first speaker, Dr. Caryn Prempeh educated the girls on menstruation and menstrual hygiene.
▶️The second speaker, Miss Hikmatu Iddrisu spoke on the topic, “The 21st century muslim woman”.
▶️ After the speaking sessions, the girls were separated into 6 groups, and the mentors available interacted with them on various issues regarding mentorship.
▶️ Ever girl present was given 12 sanitary pads to last a whole year.
CONCLUSION: The session ended succesfully at 1:30pm. The girls were excited and thanked the team for the visit to their school.
▶️The head teacher, Hajia Adamah also thanked the team and recommended that the team should make regular visits to the school.
Recommendations
Going forward, team members can propose sanitary pad companies we can work with to help raise the sanitary pads needed to make the project successful.
